If you forget a key Thanksgiving ingredient or need a gallon of milk, don’t despair.

Some grocery stores, drugstore chains and most large convenience stores will be open for last-minute errands Thursday.

Attention shoppers! There will be more stores closing Thanksgiving than ever before, and stores open for business will have reduced hours. Target and Walmart are closing on Thanksgiving, having opened for Black Friday sales for decades.

Stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine will also be closing due to state laws. Some areas have different hours due to local or municipal laws.

Many restaurants are also closed Thanksgiving Day. (See here the full list of open and closed people.

You might not be able to find cranberry sauce if you’re looking.

This holiday season, thanks to supply chain issues, many products are harder to stock and some supermarkets don’t have enough cranberry sauce.

Publix closed on Thursday in preparation for Thanksgiving. They have begun to restrict purchases of canned Cranberry Sauce and certain other products like jarred gravy or canned pie filling.

Holiday grocery store hours in 2021

The hours of operation at these locations might vary. You should always check in with the store before you go. Most pharmacies are shut down.

Acme Market The majority of stores are open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. All pharmacies close at this time.

Albertsons:While hours may vary depending on where you live, the majority of people work shorter hours.

Bashas’ Supermarkets: Open until 3 p.m.

Dillons: Open until 3 p.m.

Food Lion Varies, but many open until 4 p.m. 

Fred Meyer Open until 3 p.m.

The Fresh Market7.30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.

Fresh Thyme From 7 AM to 2 PM

Giant Company Pharmacies are open until 2 pm.

Giant food:6.30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Many pharmacies will open at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Harris Teeter Stores close at 2 p.m.

H-E-B: 6.30 a.m. – noon

Hy-Vee:There are a few exceptions, however most shops close before the deadline.

King Soopers All stores are open till 4 pm. Most pharmacies closed.

Kroger: Open until 5 p.m

Meijer: Stores open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ralphs:The majority of stores remain open until 10:15 p.m.  

Safeway: Varies.

You Can Save a Lot Varies.

Smart & Final: From 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Sprouts Farmers Market From 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Stop & Shop: Connecticut, New Jersey and New York stores open until 3 p.m. Massachusetts and Rhode Island stores are closed.

Tops: Open until 4 p.m.

Wegmans: Most locations open until 4 p.m. but Massachusetts stores will be closed.

Whole Foods Market Varies. Many stores open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WinCo Foods The stores close at 3 PM.

Kroger stores are open on Thanksgiving.

Grist stores will be closed on Thanksgiving 2021

Many convenience stores at gas stations and other places will open on Thursday. Be sure to check with your local convenience store before you go. Due to state laws, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine stores will remain closed Thanksgiving Day.


Bass Pro Shops: Open 9 a.m.

Big Lots:From 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Cabela’s: Open 9 a.m.

Circle K

Cumberland Farms

CVS: Most locations open regular hours but most pharmacies will be closed.

Dollar General: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dollar Tree:Many stores will have shorter opening hours.

The Family Dollar Most stores will be open with shorter hours. 

GameStop: Varies, not all locations are open but some are open 5 to 9 p.m.

Walgreens: Although most stores are open for business, many pharmacies close.
