Disney Heroes Night: “Dancing With the Stars”, SoYesterday. There was no good on the dance floor tonight.
Tuesday’s Disney Villains Night created a swarm of fear in the ballroom. For their final routine, the stars took on some of the most evil characters in Disney history.
But the real badness came in a shocking double eliminationThat took out two show-stopping dancers.
Like jaw-on-the-floor shocking as the fairytale ended for “Bachelor” alum, Matt James and “Beverly Hills 90210” star Brian Austin Green.
These are the highlights of what transpired on the dancefloor:
Last night at ‘DWTS’JoJo Siwa’s Prince Charming is on Disney Night. Tom Bergeron opens up about his host firings
You can see Iman Shumpert lifting his partner over his head
Shumpert stunned judges with his sheer strength on Tuesday.
Performing as Iago from “Aladdin,” the 6-foot-5 NBA star slowly pulled his partner Daniella Karagach over his head and carried her effortlessly down the dance floor steps. After all, she was actually playing the parrot. She was so high that her perch was above her head.
The gold-turban wearing Shumpert put his partner down and scowled fiercely through his Argentine tango to “Arabian Nights,” with flicks and kicks.
Karagach was once more effortlessly lifted by Shumpert at the end.
Hough called the dead-lift opening and ending “iconic,” especially as Shumpert had no momentum, all strength. “I’m kind of speechless,” Hough added.
Judge Bruno Tonioli commented upon the “featu of strength” Carrie Ann Inaba, speaking for the audience, said that she was “truly blown away”.
Shumpert acknowledged that he was anxious about this feat but said his partner was more relaxed than he thought.
The judge gave him his best score of the season: a 33-out of-40.
Sharna Burgess and Brian Austin Green raised the pirate flag in PDA Past
The “Beverly Hills 90210” star and girlfriend/pro dance partner Sharna Burgess found out the hard way that there is such thing as TooDance floor PDA is very popular.
Their Monday “Snow White” waltz, and fairy tale kisses, brought sniping from the judges. Len Goodman said that there had been “so much cuddling and kissing.”
On Tuesday, the couple shook it up with pirate swords, literally clashing in their paso doble to “He’s a Pirate” from “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl.”
Green’s face-rotted Captain Barbossa lunged towards Burgess’ Jack Sparrow. It was a clash of metal. There were loud explosions from ship cannons. And there was even double-crossing in the story. Burgess literally marched on over her dead pirate companion to close the number.
It was a hit with the judges. Tonioli, an ex-PDA-critic judge said “Tough love does work.” You’re moving in the right direction.
The couple’s score of 27 out of 40 was an improvement. They were still dangerously far behind the leadersboard at night 2.
Matt James kept impressing with his ‘Jungle Book.’
His amazing Frozone routine on Monday demonstrated that the Bachelor’s star was one of the greatest and most fun dancers in the season.
James was again in complete control on Tuesday night when he performed an “Jungle Book”-themed paso double as snake Kaa along with Lindsay Arnold. The full-snakeskin costume featured a scaled shirt that was opened in the middle, showing off his toned chest. James looked like a villain, complete with an uncharacteristic scowl and scaled-covered eyes. Judge Hough commented, “You were in it!”
He hit all the moves and the judges gave him his first 8 scores of the season. He seemed certain to be back next week with the charismatic “Bachelor”. Tonioli began giving Tonioli little points that the dancer would need to improve.
Tonioli stated that the performance was not sleazy.
Double-eliminations can even kill the strongest
Green and Burgess fell to the third-place finish as saved couples danced off the dancefloor. Because of their low vote and score, Green and Burgess were unable to get their votes. They received their walking papers.
The bloodletting was on and they left the stage unharmed.
…and the shocking news kept coming
Arnold and James stood in the last two along with Kenya Moore (Real Housewives of Atlanta) and Brandon Armstrong, Arnold’s pro partner. Moore danced a brave waltz, but she was in the bottom two this week. Judges did not spare Moore but Moore appeared certain to win the vote of the judges especially with James.
After credits had rolled, Banks called for speed. However, Len Goodman was unable to speak and threw the final tie-breaking vote. To global surprise, he threw a lifeline to the shocked Moore, who fell tearfully to her knees in joy.
James and Arnold held each other with stunned looks as the show cut.
October 18: “Dancing With the Stars”, a new series, returns to TV. (ABC 8 EDT/PDT).
