WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden arrived at Walter Reed Medical Center Friday morning for what the White House called his “routine annual physical.”

The trip was not initially on the president’s schedule but announced later. Jen Psaki from the White House said details would be revealed later. Biden departed the White House shortly before 8:30 a.m. EST and arrived at the the Bethesda, Md. hospital at 8:51 a.m. EST.

The White House repeatedly stated that Biden (now 79) would undergo a physical examination in 2021 and the results would be made public.

Biden’s December 2019 medical summary was released by the Biden Campaign ahead of the 2020 Democratic presidential Primaries. At the time, Biden’s doctor said Biden was a “a healthy, vigorous,77-year-old male” fit to be president.

The three-page report said Biden’s most significant medical event was brain aneurysms he had in 1988 but that he’s had no recurrences.

During the presidential campaign, former President Donald Trump regularly questioned Biden’s cognitive ability and fitness to be president – attacks that Republicans have continued during Biden’s presidency.

Even though it was not a successful campaign strategy, this poll by Politico/Morning Consult found that Americans were growing more skeptical about Biden’s overall health. The poll found that 40% believed Biden was in good health, while 50% said the opposite. Surveys conducted last October showed that 19% of voters thought Biden was healthy.

Biden’s $1.75 billion social spending plan is being considered by the U.S. House of Representatives. The only other Biden event Friday will be the annual presidential pardoning of National Thanksgiving Turkey at 3.15 pm EST.
